English (UK)   Terry Butcher Leaves Brentford  -  Categories: League Two  -  @ 10:28:19 am

That didn't last long. After only seven months in charge, former England great Terry Butcher has left Brentford by "mutual consent." The announcement comes after Brentford had lost five matches in a row. The Bees had not scored a goal in over 500 minutes of play.

Brentford have struggled since former manager Martin Allen left the club in 2006. Under Allen, the Bees made the League One playoffs in consecutive years. But Brentford have fallen on hard times since Allen's departure. They were relegated from League One last season and have only won 5 of 23 this season. Currently, Brentford are in 19th place in League Two. Butcher's assistant Andy Scott has been named caretaker manager and will lead the club until a permanent replacement is named.

Judging by the response on the BBC messageboards, it seems that the Brentford fans generally applaud the decision. As for a a full time replacement for Butcher, the best case scenario would be the return of Martin Allen. After getting the sack from mad man Mandaric at Leicester, Allen is available, but I don't see him taking a job in League Two.
